Britain’s Best Boss – and a few of the worst!
26th November 2009
Debbie Hinton, Country Audiology Services Manager for North and South Worcestershire, has today been announced as Britain’s Best Boss in the annual competition run by Working Families - a national charity that helps children, working parents, carers and employers by providing practical strategies to help people achieve a healthy work-life balance.
Information and background on the award provide a wealth of useful resource materials and anecdotal evidence on the importance of flexibility in the workplace, particularly relevant for the Employing People topic within AS Level Business Studies.
The Working Families philosophy is that work and home life do not need to be in conflict and that, by working together, employees and employers can create work environments that support productivity on the job whilst providing for a rich, healthy life outside of work.
Interviewed on the BBC Radio 4 Today Programme this morning, Debbie summed up her approach as consisting of three key elements: Listen to your staff, trust them, and treat them with the respect that you’d expect from them.
The Britain’s Best Boss website provides plenty of useful supporting material, not only on the isue of flexibility, but also touches on leadership and employee engagement
