Beautiful People was launched in Denmark seven years ago and since then it has opened for business in several countries, including Britain and America, arousing delight and despair in equal measure and even some controversy. The dating website work on the idea that you must be considered “beautiful” by the existing members before you are admitted to use the site.

This appeals to many people (the beautiful) and is considered politically incorrect by other. However the company generated more than $8.5 million in subscriptions last year and have a target of $100 million within 3 years. Beautifulpeople.com is hoping to move away from subscription based revenue and aims to move to an advertising-funded approach. This will allow the business to offer additional fee paying services such as video marketing. They believe that there is a potential market in launching Beautifulpeople.com for the gay market, which is a growing market.

Whilst this service may be regarded as a luxury to consumers, the owners believe that the recession has been good for the industry because people need to economise and they try to be more efficient financially in their quest for love.

This is a good article for use in teaching mass and niche marketing….....other niche dating markets include Motorcycle enthusiasts have Bikerkiss.com, science-fiction buffs may get lucky at Trekpassions.com and golf fans can take their pick from Golfmates.com or Dateagolfer.com!

Beautifulpeople.com have decided not to set up uglypeople.com and are leaving it to another competitor to enter the market.
