Being Entrepreneurial - The Masterplan (Effective Communication)
22nd September 2013
The Masterplan is a great group activity specifically designed to introduce the concept of communication.
1 At the start of the lesson, the teacher should introduce the concept of communication and its importance in being entrepreneurial and presenting an idea.
2 After this discussion the teacher splits the class into groups of around 4 students. Each group needs to be given a cut up copy of the Masterplan in an envelope and at one end of the room, hidden from view, should be the completed Masterplan (only 1 copy).
3 The members of each group needs to number themselves 1 – 4. The teacher then shouts out 1. Here, all the students numbered 1 can visit the Masterplan. They have 30 seconds to look at the completed Masterplan. Then, they need to rejoin their groups and work together to try and put the Masterplan together. After another 30 seconds, the teacher shouts out 2. Here, all the students numbered 2 can visit the Masterplan. This should continue until the first group completes the Masterplan (there are no maximum turns, the only rule is that only 1 person from each group can visit the Masterplan at a time, for a maximum of 30 seconds).
4 After the activity has been completed a discussion can take place about how they communicated together in order to complete the activity and if they had to do the activity again, how they would communicate with each other and do things differently.
