We are producing more data than ever before, in fact, so much new data is being produced that 90% of all the data that has ever existed was made in the last few years.
Advances in technology means that analysing vast amounts of data has never been easier and this provides many benefits to businesses.
This excellent video from the FT illustrates how retailers are benefiting from Big Data, for example, Sainsbury's have a number of stores in close proximity to students and by analysing their data they have discovered that students clean themselves less frequently but they do buy Fabreze to make themselves smell nice!
Sainsbury's use this information to ensure that they get the right product range in their stores.
