Axe-Factor: the new HRM Game from TV-AM

Jim Riley

7th January 2010

This should be worth watching (and perhaps recording) over the next few snowdays. The knives are out at ITV’s TV-AM. The need to cut overheads means that the producers believe they can get by without two of the celebrity presenters on the daytime TV show. Four out of six will survive…

Lots of good material here in the suitably gloating Daily Mail article (they just LOVE telling us how much TV presenters earn - and for how many hours or days work).

Much potential for a good lesson starter and discussion here:

- What factors should management consider when choosing the presenters who stay, and who goes?
- Can £200,000 for a few hours five days a week be considered good value for money for ITV shareholders?
- Why are TV-AM being forced into such dramatic cost-cutting?
- What are the potential risks of discrimination when making the choice (the two youngest presenters are described as dead-certs to keep their jobs grin)
