This is an interesting look at diversification - Ansoff Matrix anyone? - and how Foxconn have moved into the market for electric vehicles, buying an electric vehicle plant in Ohio.

Foxconn are eyeing a move into the sector, translating their production methods for iPhones into the electric vehicle sector. Foxconn is a so-called contract manufacturer, and sees itself a offering other brands a highly efficient manufacturer to lower the cost of EV manufacture.

Foxconn is one of the world’s largest contract electronics manufacturers, based in Taiwan. It's probably most well-known for being a major supplier to Apple, making the iPhone and other Apple products. Foxconn employs over a million people worldwide, mostly in China, and has been criticized for poor working conditions and labor violations in some of its factories. It has also been involved in high-profile controversies, such as allegations of underage labor and worker suicides at its facilities. Despite this, Foxconn is still a dominant player in the electronics industry and a key player in the supply chain for many major tech companies.
