A Dramatic Drop in GCSE Business Candidate Numbers

The contrinued, dramatic drop in the popularity of GCSE Business Studies has continued in 2010…

Compared with summer 2007, there are now 45,238 fewer students taking one of the three main GCSE Business courses. Thats a drop of 29.3% over just three years.

The number of students taking GCSE Business courses in summer 2010 fell by 16,088 (12.8%).

Whilst there are various reasons for the decline of GCSE business courses, in my view one stands out. We have seen a dramatic increase in the number of centres who have abandoned GCSE Business for the BTEC Diploma options during 2009 and 2010. The significant rise of the BTECs continues!
