| Module 2762 builds upon the knowledge and skills you acquired during the ethics section of the foundation module. In the first half of the module you will expand upon your knowledge of ethical theory to include the Utilitarian and Kantian approach to ethics. You will also develop an understanding of the similarities and differences between these secular ethical systems and Christian Ethics. In the second half of the module you will apply your knowledge of ethical theory within the context of medical ethics. This includes a basic understanding of the legal and medical procedures involved in medical practices such as abortion, euthanasia, embryo research, IVF and genetic engineering. The main focus of the module however is on the ethical questions raised by these practices. This requires the ability to identify the ethical implications of medical issues with specific reference to the concepts of personhood, the right to life and the sanctity of life. It also includes the practical application of the ethical theories you have studied to real life and every-day situations. | |
