Are you a glass half empty or a glass half full kind of person?

Are you a glass half empty or a glass half full kind of person? Sometimes it can be really difficult to maintain a positive attitude in life, as you face tricky situations at work or in your personal life.

One excellent method that I encourage my sixth form students to develop is a ‘positive events calendar’. Each student was given a specially designed calendar so that they could record a positive event or something they were grateful for everyday. You may think that this is useless, but the very act of thinking about all the positive things that have happened in the day, can bring about a sense of gratitude. Furthermore, when the going gets tough, all you have to do is look back at your calendar to remind yourself of all the great things that you have in your life!

You could even do this as a class / tutor group, but instead of a calendar you could ask each student to write a positive thing on a small piece of paper and fold it up and add it to a positivity jar. Then, when things get tough at school, students can pick one out one and share it with the class.

We all need picking up now and again and these are really wonderful methods to encourage a real “attitude of gratitude.”
